Jesus is willing
Remember that one time Jesus healed a man with leprosy? Now Jesus healed many people with leprosy but this particular event is recorded with some great details that show the compassion and awesomeness of Jesus.
What is Leprosy you may ask? Leprosy is a highly contagious disease that affects the skin and in severe cases, disfigurement, deformities and the loss of limbs. Yeah, no good…
Leprosy is a curable disease these days but back in the ancient world it was not. People with the disease in Jesus’ day were separated from the rest of the population and put into Leprosy colonies. If someone with Leprosy did have to go into town they would have to yell very loud and announce they were coming so people could clear away and not be anywhere near the individual.
It had to be an unbelievably painful lonely life that I can’t even begin to understand. The story is recorded like this in Luke 5:12
While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
WOW! I love it! Not only did Jesus heal the man, he reached out his hand and touched him when this guy probably has not been touched by another human for years.
Jesus knew exactly what this man needed, he needed to be healed of leprosy of course but also needed to be healed of his brokenness from within. Jesus touched him with his hand in front of the crowd while the man was still covered with leprosy.
Jesus could have just looked at him and said you are healed but he touched the man and then he was healed. Jesus is not a far away God that can not relate to you, he’s lived on earth with us and seen it all through our eyes. He knows what this world is like and what each of us needs.
What do you need from God? If you dont know its all good because Jesus does. Call on him today.
